The
Art Monkey Partners with Lemur Lounge to Help Madagascar Fauna Group,

Friday, December 19th, the Lemur Respiration
Group held its first in a series of progressive benefit events for
the Madagascar Fauna Group.
The Malagasy government has recently tripled the designated amount
of land in protection, but Madagascar cannot dedicate the financial
recourses to this project on its own. The Madagascar Fauna Group
(MFG), an international consortium of zoos and related institutions
working together to conserve Madagascar's spectacular wildlife and
wild places, has been working with the Malagasy government since
1988 on various projects aimed at community education, lemur conservation,
and the reintegration of lemurs into their natural habitat.
The Lemur Respiration Group, a local consortium of lemur and wildlife
advocates, will be throwing the first in a series of progressive
fundraising events for MFG on December 19th from 10:00pm to 2:30am
at the Lemur Lounge in Alexandria, Virginia. All proceeds from the
door, donations, and sale of artwork will benefit MFG.
The first benefit, titled “Lemur Lounge: The Seasonal Gift”,
will include 5 volunteer DJs, mixed media lemur artwork for sale
by Lynne Venart and Lyanne Negron-Loriz, slides, video, educational
materials about lemurs and Madagascar, and giveaways provided by
the Madagascar Fauna Group, Duke Primate Center, Lemur Conservation
Foundation, and the Philadelphia Zoo. The event will promote awareness
in the community about the importance of preserving Madagascar’s
wildlife while raising money for MFG.
